What You’ll Need
Ingredients:
Sourdough Discard: 180g
Eggs: 2
Pumpkin Puree or Sweet Potato Puree: 150g
Peanut Butter (Natural, unsweetened, unsalted): 80g
Rolled Oats: 100g
Whole Wheat Flour: 200g
Equipment:
Kitchen Scale
Large Mixing Bowl
Mixing Utensils
Rolling Pin
Cookie Cutter or Biscuit Cutter
Parchment Paper
Baking Sheet
Cooling Rack
Step-by-Step Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°
In a large bowl, mix all wet ingredients (including peanut butter).
The batter should be smooth
Stir in rolled oats until the oats are coated.
Add flour and mix to form a rough dough.
The dough doesn’t have to be smooth and will be a little sticky.
Sprinkle or sift whole wheat flour on a surface and press out dough using your hands.
If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle some whole wheat flour on the top of the dough.
Roll dough with rolling pin to 1/4 of an inch in thickness.
Use a cookie cutter (if you like fun shapes—I use a heart shaped cookie cutter), biscuit cutter, or a knife for simple squares and cut out biscuit treats. Reform and re-roll the dough to cut more biscuits. Repeat until all dough is used.
Place cutout treats on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes or until they are golden brown and firm to the touch.
For extra crunchy treats, you can turn off the oven and leave the treats inside for an additional 15 minutes.
Once baked, remove the treats from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack.
Tips & Notes
Storage: Store treats in an airtight container for up to a week or place them in the refrigerator for longer freshness.
Customizations: Feel free to add other dog-friendly ingredients like shredded carrots or mashed banana for variety and extra nutrition. Please be sure you are using pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling.
Size Matters: Make sure to cut the treats to an appropriate size for your dog—smaller for little pups and larger for bigger breeds.
